Alternative Solutions | Saving Gas

Alternative Solutions | Saving Gas
There are many ways that you can make your non-electric car more environmentally-friendly. The easiest way is to take steps to save gas. Here are some tricks for cutting back on gas-consumption:

1. Drive at speed limit or try to stay close to your most fuel-efficient speed. For most cars, this is 50 mph.

2. Avoid driving during rush-hour traffic or other times when there is high congestion on the road.

3. Avoid driving when it is raining, very windy, or when barometric pressure is high. It puts too much of a strain on your car.

4. Take out any objects that add unnecessary weight to your car, such as sports equipment or tools.

5. If you own a pick-up truck, try to lower the tailgate--this reduces air drag, which reduces gas mileage.

6. Avoid repeated braking, tailgating, or accelerating too quickly. Not only does doing these things waste energy, but they also wear out your tires and brakes.

7. Allow your car to lose speed going up hills and gain speed going down hills in order to increase efficiency.

8. Change your air filter often. Using a dirty filter uses more gas.

9. Keep the tires properly inflated. Doing so increases your traveling distance on a tank of gas. Check your tires especially when there are drastic changes in temperature outside.

10. Have your car tuned-up regularly.

11. Use synthetic oil in your car. This can help you to save an average of 5% on gas usage.

12. Avoid excessive idling.
